In an article entitled, Bill O’Reilly Argues With Atheist Richard Dawkins, the Christian Post reported:

On his Wednesday show, Fox News Channel personality Bill O’Reilly showed a recently recorded clip of a conversation he had with atheist Richard Dawkins, which seemed to be equal parts interview and debate.

Dawkins, a biologist and one of the most recognized atheistic figures in the world today, went on “The O’Reilly Factor” in order to promote his new book, The Magic of Reality.

“Throughout history some of the worst regimes ever have been atheistic,” O’Reilly said, pointing to leaders like Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot. Religious principles, he said, help put much-needed constraints on society.

Dawkins replied that atheism played no role in the regimes of Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mao, but since objective morality is not possible if there is no God, then there are no inherent rights or wrongs that an atheistic regime must adhere to. Therefore if there is no God, an atheistic government can justify mass killing.

If a regime claims to be Christian and does evil that evil can be condemned by the Christianity the regime professes. There is no evil that can be categorically condemned by atheism; therefore anything can be justified.
